Girls on the Run
FAQ
Q. Do I have to be a runner to be involved?
A. No, many of our board members and coaches alike are not runners, but they do have a passion for the program. Just like we tell the girls, as long as you can move forward in some way (run, jog, walk, cartwheel, skip, hop), you are welcome to join Girls on the Run!
Q. Do the girls have to enjoy running to sign up for the program?
A. No, our coaches encourage the girls to "move in a forward direction" in whatever manner is most comfortable to their body. They can run, jog, walk, skip, hop, cartwheel, or somersault (although somersaulting might give you quite a headache after a 5k!)
Q. Why the young age?
A. Studies show that girls between the ages of eight and twelve (3rd, 4th, 5th grade) are still receptive to adult influence, while beginning to feel peer pressure. It's an age psychologists call the latency period of development when girls begin to confront important life and relationship issues.
Q. How much does the program cost?
A. Currently, program fees are $50 in Jackson County for early bird special and $75 after.
Q. What is included in the registration fee?
A. The program fee includes 24 1-hour lessons, water bottle, t-shirt, entry into the season-ending 5K, and end of the season medals.
